Whale or mermaid?

I loved this e-mail I got today! Which are you? ;)

Recently, in a large city in Australia , a poster featuring a young, thin and tanned woman appeared in the window of a gym. It said, "This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?"

A middle-aged woman, whose physical characteristics did not match those of the woman on the poster, responded publicly to the question posed by the gym.

To Whom It May Concern:
Whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, sea lions, curious humans.) They have an active sex life, get pregnant and have adorable baby whales. They have a wonderful time stuffing themselves with shrimp. They play and swim in the seas, seeing wonderful places like Patagonia , the Bering Sea
and the coral reefs of Polynesia .

Whales are wonderful singers and have even recorded CDs. They are incredible creatures and have virtually no predators other than humans. They are loved, protected and admired by almost everyone in the world.

Mermaids don't exist. If they did exist, they would be lining up outside the offices of Argentinean psychoanalysts with an identity crisis. Fish or human? They don't have a sex life because they kill men who get close to them Not to mention, how could they have sex? Just look at them ... where IS it? Therefore, they don't have kids. Besides, who wants to get close to a girl who smells like a fish store?

The choice is perfectly clear to me: I want to be a whale.

P..S. We are in an age when media puts into our heads the idea that only skinny people are beautiful, but I prefer to enjoy an ice cream, a good dinner with a man who makes me shiver, and a glass of wine with my friends. With time, we gain weight because we accumulate so much information and wisdom in our heads that when there is no more room, it distributes out to the rest of our bodies. So we aren't heavy, we are enormously cultured, educated and happy.

Beginning today, when I look at my butt in the mirror I will think, ̈Good grief, look how smart I am!̈

weekly update!

Hello blog friends!

I thought that I would take time and update on my week before I went to bed! Saying that it has been crazy this week would definitely an understatement (hence my excuse for not posting)! Even though I love the days off, getting back into your groove after you've been out so much definitely is tough to do! This week has been a mad dash to survive until today, which thank God we survived! I did get a new student this week which has made my week and especially today QUITE interesting! We did have a nice long talk this afternoon with myself, mom, dad, and student so I think that from now on our days will be, well less exciting! :)

Bryan and I drove to Waco tonight and met my parents at Texas Roadhouse for dinner tonight. We had a blast! We're here to celebrate my mom's birthday which is next Tuesday!

I have class on Monday night and I have a ton of homework that I've put off until the last minute (of course). I have a feeling I'm going to be up late on Sunday!

Well, I guess that's about all I have for now! Hope you and yours have a wonderful, relaxing, weekend!

Valentine's Day 2010!

Happy (day after) Valentine's Day! Bryan and I had a wonderful time celebrating our first Valentine's Day as a married couple!

We decided to celebrate a day early on Saturday. I woke up on Saturday morning and surprised Bryan with a homemade breakfast of his favorites (or actually what I could find in our kitchen..hehe). We relaxed the rest of the day, did some last minute shopping, and got Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch. I worked all afternoon on his present I was going to give him on Sunday, which was his candy bar poster. I also cut out lots of pink and red hearts and wrote little messages on them saying "thank you" or "I love this about you".

We got ready and then drove to Mesquite and ate at Olive Garden! Seeing how it was the Saturday night before V-day, I was very surprised that we only ended up waiting about 35 minutes! The food and service was great and we had a wonderful evening! We drove home and then watched a movie in bed to end our evening! Bryan also gave me a dozen beautiful pink roses! They were called "Hot Princess" roses~he thought I'd like the name! :)

That night, Bryan went to bed before I did, so I went and taped up all of my little hearts around the house (and in places he still hasn't found yet, hehe) for him to find in the morning. We woke up the next morning and went to church and to our life group and had a wonderful time! After church, we received a text message from Bryan's parents asking us what our plans were, and we called them back and ended up driving to Tyler and meeting them halfway.

We had lunch at Crackle Barrel and then just sat and talked for a while. After we left Crackle Barrel, we just drove around Tyler and ended up at Starbucks. We got some hot drinks and sat and talked some more. Mom and Dad gave us our Valentine's gifts and balloons and we drove home after that.

Overall, it was a great day and a great weekend! Pictures of our Valentine's Day and gifts are below!

Bryan's poster I gave him! Note: I stole this idea from a friend and have been wanting to use it forever! I loved it, and give you all full permission to use it and pass it on! :)

"To my RED HOT SWEETHEART,
Happy Valentine's Day! I'm so thankful I married you and love that you're such a NERD! I love how you make me SNICKER and laugh! I'd go to the MILKY WAY for you! Even if we never have 100 GRAND I'd never care because every day with you is PAY DAY! Thank you for being my LIFESAVER! Our love is NUTRAGEOUS and I promise to love you NOW AND LATER!"

Honest Scrap Award!

I'm so excited! My new friend Amber over at The Survival Guide for the Young, Fabulous, and Newlywed gave me the Honest Scrap Award! It's my first ever award and I'm so excited to receive it!

"The Honest Scrap award comes with a caveat or two. First, you have to tell your readers ten things about you they may not know, but that are true. Second, you have to tag 10 people with the award. Third, let all the people you've given the award to know that they've gotten it (comment on their blogs or something). And finally, make sure you link back to the person who awarded you."

Here are my 10!
  1. I never doubted that I would find my husband. I believed that he was out there somewhere and did not believe in wasting my time dating every Joe Smoe that was out there (which is why I only had about 1-2 serious boyfriends). I had prayed for him since I was 13 yrs old, but diligently began praying for him when I was 25. I prayed specifically that God would bring him to me every night, and on Day 48 I met Bryan. I am a firm believer in prayer!
  2. I love mysteries. I love reading about them, watching them on t.v., anything having to do with them. This may be because when I was little, I read all of the Nancy Drew books and wanted to be her. Bryan can't stand all of the scary, mystery crime stuff, but I love it!
  3. I have flown on a plane 5 times during my lifetime, but have never flown with my parents. I have flown with my sister, best friend, and husband. I love flying!
  4. I am a country girl, but can also be a city girl. I can always find the best of both worlds, but will always be a country girl at heart.
  5. I am the oldest of 7 siblings, 5 girls-2 boys. Yes, we all come from the same parents, and we're not Morman or Catholic. :)
  6. I love the color pink, and always have a shade of pink or red on my toenails!
  7. I love to sing and have been playing the piano for over 10 yrs! When I was trying to decide what I wanted to major in in college, I debated majoring in music. However, teaching obviously won that battle!
  8. I can probably out sleep anyone. It's a talent of mine. Once I am out, I am OUT!
  9. I want 4 children and already have my first boy and girl names picked out. However, don't ask me because I won't tell you what they are. I don't want anyone to steal them! :)
  10. I want to be a stay at home mommy more than anything right now. Too bad I still have to wait about 1.5-2 more years!
Ok, well there are my 10! Now, I'm tagging these 10 wonderful ladies! Check them out! :)

Winter Wonderland!

Well, I'll go ahead and join everyone else in posting about all of the SNOW that we got this past weekend! Wasn't that so crazy beautiful?! I couldn't believe it when I woke up on Thursday morning and saw it all. I ran into the bedroom and woke up Bryan (who was in a panic and thought something was wrong..hehe) yelling "Baby, it SNOWED!" We ran to look out our front yard and couldn't believe it! We went to school that morning and it snowed ALL DAY LONG! For most of the day my students and I just stared out my big window in amazement, watching the snow fall all day long. We went out and played in it twice! :) It was a special memory that I'll never forget!

They did end up canceling school on Friday, which was bittersweet. Because they canceled it, we will loose our Monday off of Easter, which I'm not happy about. However, as Bryan said, if we had to loose a day, that was the perfect day to do so! We slept in on Friday, were lazy, and just enjoyed the snow! We took tons of pictures and if you want to see them all, you can look at them on my facebook account. Here's the link.

Another big exciting thing that happened was that Bryan and I got a new camera!! WHOO HOO! It was about time..I've gone without one for several months now! It's been torture..but now back to my new baby. She is a Canon PowerShot SX120IS and we LOVE her. We've been taking pictures like crazy over the past few days and I can't wait to take tons more! I'll leave you with a few pictures I took on my new camera! :)

prayer request

Hey guys,

I'd like to ask you to pray for some friends of mine, Sarah and Jamie. They have currently been in the process of adopting a baby boy. The baby was born last week, they were there during his birth, waiting on all the legal stuff, basically just waiting to take him home. However, they found out tonight that the birth mother has changed her mind and wants to keep the baby. They are absolutely heartbroken right now and I can't even begin to imagine how they feel. Please, please, pray for them. My heart aches for them.

Jesus, I come to you right now and pray for Sarah and Jamie. God, we don't understand why this has happened and it's so hard to see Your will in this situation right now. There are so many unanswered questions and much hurt and anger. I pray God that You will make Yourself known tonight to Sarah and Jamie and their family. Wrap Your arms around them and fill them with Your peace and love tonight Father. Help us to remember that you have an ultimate plan Jesus, and that everything happens for a reason..Your reason..even when we can't see it or understand it. We love you Jesus and pray that you will heal the brokenhearted tonight.

In Jesus name I pray,
Amen
