I'm still here..

nothing exciting to report on. I survived my first week of school (thank God) and my second Monday! We're really working hard on getting into a routine and learning how to be quiet! That's a big one!

Our weekend was pretty fun! After school on Friday, we went to Buffalo Wild Wings with our friends Wes and Amanda, then went to watch our first Heath Hawk football game of the season! It was a good game, and the Hawks won. In even better news, my brother Chandler played on Thursday and they won also! He had a great game, and was on the front page of the Waco newspaper something like 2 or 3 days in a row! I can't wait to get to go see him play in 2 weeks!

Saturday was spent sleeping in, then I went to a baby shower which was lots of fun! Bryan and I went out to eat at Cheddar's for our date night and then came home and watched t.v. Sunday we went to church and got to hear an amazing guest speaker, Lee Strobal, author of "Case for Christ". Bryan was definitely pumped! Bryan also got to teach Sunday school in our class last Sunday and did a great job! He LOVES teaching and always gets so excited! He definitely has a gift!

Well, that's about all I have for now! Sorry it's not very exciting! Until next time..

Day #1 down!

Well, as most of you know, school started today! Yipee!  I'll just say that I'm so glad that today is over! I'm probably a little grumpy, only because I'm EXHAUSTED, but I'm not like most teachers. Most teachers/people love the first day of school, but not me! I'm always so glad to get it over with! It's just so boring and painful for everyone, kids and teachers included. I don't like the first day, or really the first week. I'm just like, "ok, let's just fast forward to where we all know the classroom rules and expectations, and we can actually get into our schedule and get movin and groovin!"

However, I know that we can't do that in the real world..and if I don't spend these first few days and weeks establishing structure, my classroom will be utter chaos the rest of the year. I know I have to do it, but nobody said I had to like it! :)

Oh and have I mentioned that I have 22 kids this year? Yep. 22 lovely darlings! Oh and 14 of them are boys, leaving me with 8 girls. Would you believe that most of my boys are angels and it's actually 2 of the girls that I'm worried about? Hmm..never would have imagined that! :)

Our first day went pretty well! I'm just exhausted with having so many kids. I have NEVER had this many, and only had a class close to this size my very first year. I've gotten very spoiled and used to having small classes (like 13 and 15 kids). As you can imagine, I got a rude awakening today! It's definitely NOT the same with 22 as it was with 15! I guess it's just going to take some time for us to get used to having so many little bodies in one very small room! :)

I got lucky and seem to have some pretty good parents who have already offered to help out, and that's always music to a teacher's ears! :)

Well, that's about all I have for now. Is is bed time yet?!!! :)
P.S Here's a picture of us on our first day back! This begins year #3 for Bryan and #5 for me!

Phi Lamb Officer Reatreat 2010 and other random updates!

Well, I made it back! It was definitely an interesting weekend, but a good one! Jacque and I drove down to Hunt, TX (which is about a 5 hr drive for us..yipee) and made it to the place where we were staying, Mo Ranch. Now, I have to tell you, this place was WAY back in the middle of nowhere. Like, I had to drive no faster than 40 mph the entire 11 miles back to the ranch on a 2 lane highway. Super fun, however the view was beautiful!
Now, unfortunately when we got there, we found that our sleeping accomodations were NOT as beautiful. May I introduce a room of hard bunkbeds to you?

Do you perhaps need some sheets to sleep with? Here you go! You have to make it yourself of course! :)
AND let's not forget my favorite part.......

yep, toilets that were built for midgets! Seriously, we were taller than the stall, and when you sat down you couldn't bend your head down or you'd open the stall door..which DIDN'T have locks on them!

and let's not forget the wonderful urinals that also accompanied our toilets. Can you say GROSS?!!!! Anyways, the good thing was that we didn't have to pay for anything, so we just took one for the team!

The other funny (not really) part was that since we were out in the middle of nowhere, when we got there we found out that we had NO SERVICE at all on our phones. I mean no one, no phone, at all! I got so tired of seeing that stupid message all weekend! The only bad thing was that I planned on calling Bryan when I got to the ranch, but obviously that was out of the question! So, Jacque and I decided to drive back into town Friday night to call our men. We were so happy to finally have one bar on our phones and got to talk to the boys! The best part though was on our way back when we encountered on the road : a herd of deer, a possum, 2 raccoons a cat, AND a porcupine!!

Overall, the weekend with our sisters and officers was really great! Quite adventurous, but we had a great time!

I was also blessed when I got home and my hubby surprised me with a clean house, a pink crape mertle for our front yard that I'd been wanting AND these:

Aren't they beautiful?! And they smell so good!

Today was also our first day back to school and it wasn't too bad. Really boring though..I mean, how fun can sitting from 1:30-4:00 and reading the school handbook be? Ugh..shoot me now!

After school, I went to my yoga class for the 4th time in a row and I definitely didn't like this class as well as the other ones. It might have been due to the fact that I was really tired, or maybe it was because I had a male instructor...who was the hairiest man beast that I've ever seen...who was also wearing a pair of windshorts...with nothing on under them....and he sweated through them until they were a dark, sopping wet, red color. Appetizing huh? Now I know not to go back to that one! I was glad I went though. I definitely worked (and sweated) by butt off! :)

Well, I think those are all of my updates for tonight! This tired girl is off to bed! Night, night! :)

yoga update!

Well, I'm glad to report that yoga has been going very well! I went 3 days in a row and am VERY proud of myself! Believe me when I say that I have never worked out this hard in a very long time..if ever!

I went to session A on Tuesday, session B yesterday evening, and I did my first official Fire 60 class today!  Session B went so much better than the first day (probably due to the fact that I had eaten and drank a spark before class). The intro classes basically teach you the poses for the Fire class. The Fire 60 class is actually harder because you're only doing one set, but holding it twice as long. The Fire 90 min class does 2 sets, but only holds them half of the time. This afternoon I did have to lay down on my mat a time or 2, but not for long. I think that going 3 days in a row definitely made my body tired and I just need a break. Good thing I'm getting one this weekend! ;) I'm also even more proud of myself because my body is really getting used to sweating and being in that 98.6 degree heat with the 60% humidity. I can't even imagine how relaxing the 90 degree classes will feel like! :) I'm pretty sure that I'm going to be sticking with doing the hot yoga and it makes me feel very happy! I just love the fact of how the heat/sweating detoxes my body, plus I feel like I've done the hardest workout ever and that leaves me feeling good! I've accomplished a lot!

Even though I'm definitely proud of all my hard work this weekend, it's time for some relaxation! This weekend is my annual Phi Lamb officer's retreat and I'll be heading down to Hunt, TX this weekend with my bestie Jacque. When we graduated from college, Jacque and I became members of the Alumni Council for our sorority, Sigma Phi Lambda. Each year, we meet with our new officers at ASU, the alumni board and other councils from over 18 other chapters in the US! It's a great time of bonding, sisterhood, and just lots of fun praising the Lord! Please be praying that we have a safe drive, our time would be sweet, and God would move! Even though I'm sad to be away from my hubby, I can't wait to see my sisters! :)

Well, I'm also gearing back up for teacher inservice starting on Monday, so who knows when you'll see me next! I can't believe school is almost here! Hope you all have a great weekend!

I have never sweat this much in my entire life!

What did I do to cause this you ask? Well, this morning I went to Sunstone Yoga here in Rockwall! I first heard about it from my friend Kelsey who started taking yoga at her location a while back and fell in love with it. I'd been reading her blog about it and tracking her progress. Well, she's really great about taking pictures and did some before and after pictures of her progress and man was I impressed! She looked like one hot mama! ;) So of course I said, "Hey! I want to look like that!" I googled Sunstone Yoga and to my surprise found out that there was actually one in Rockwall so I was super pumped!

If you know me, you know that I have never been one to go work out 24/7 or rarely at all. I've joined 2 gyms since I have been in Rockwall, one before my husband, and one after we got married. Before we were married, I did like going to 24 hour fitness and I did work out there more regularly (probably because I was getting ready for my wedding :). After Bryan and I got married, Bryan couldn't handle the size of 24 hour and so we went to a smaller gym. Well, that didn't last for very long. Maybe it's just me, but I just don't like working out with my husband (and I'm sure the feeling is mutual). So basically we stopped doing anything. This summer he's gone running a couple of times, we've gone on a few walks, but it's just not working.

I wanted to try and find a girl workout partner and just try something that worked for me. About 2 years ago, a co-workerof mine, Melody, started a little yoga class at school, and we worked out after school. I'd never done yoga before, but tried it and loved it! Unfortunately, Melody moved campuses and that was the end of yoga at school. So, when I heard about Sunstone I got on their website and researched info about them. I found out that they have this 10 for $10 offer, and decided that that's what I'd do! You have 10 days to complete whatever classes you want for $10. They suggest that if you're new to their place and to yoga, you take this intro class that will familiarize you with their place and teach you new poses. So, that's what I did.

I went this morning and really liked the yoga studio. The people were super nice and I was excited to get started! Oh, did I tell you that at Sunstone they are all about hot, hot, hot? Yes, every room that you take your classes in is at a temperature of either 90 degrees or 98.6 degrees with 60% humidity. They really believe in detoxing the body and sweating it all out! I was interested to see how this would go!

To make a long story short, I discovered several things about myself this morning. One, I can survive anything. I survived 90 minutes, working out, in a room temp of 98.6 degrees and didn't die. I have never seen myself sweat that much in my ENTIRE LIFE! It was also the HARDEST THING I've ever done..or that pertained to working out. I was used to yoga with Melody, but this was 10 times harder!

Did I also say how embarrassing it was? Oh yes, very. It was so embarrassing to be so out of shape and fat that you couldn't do a simple move like putting your feet side by side, ankle to ankle, and be comfortable b/c your thighs were so fat! I also realized that I am SO stiff and am not flexible AT ALL! The most embarrassing part was when I had to lay down on my mat several times b/c I was about to pass out/throw up! I think that might have been due to the fact that I didn't eat anything (just woke up and drove there) and it was SO hot. Seriously, I haven't been in that high of temperature, for that long of time, working out, all summer long (or ever)! Thank goodness the teacher was really great and actually thanked me for laying down. She said that many people will just keep working and not listen to their bodies and end up passing out. She said that you have to listen to your body and take a break if you need it. That's just being smart. After that, I didn't feel quite as bad.

So, even though going to yoga today was not my idea of fun, I am proud of myself for going, trying something new, and doing my best! I know that I am only bettering myself! I plan on going back for the second intro class tomorrow night to torture myself even more! :) Like I told hubby, tomorrow can't be worse than today is, and I'm going to do as much as I can in my 10 days and then after that, I'll decide if this is something I want to do seriously. I swear though, if I ever hear anyone say that yoga is easy and not hard, I'm going to punch them in the face! ;)

No rest for the weary!

So this past weekend we traveled to Shreveport to check on Dad (who's doing great) and to celebrate my SIL Rachel's birthday. We had a great weekend, got some school shopping done, and enjoyed being with the family!

I don't know about ya'll, but when Bryan and I ever go out of town, we always turn off the AC in order to save money. Well that's great and all, but do know what's NOT great? Your husband not knowing how to program the system. That means that when we get home, we have to turn the air on, and wait several HOURS for our house to cool down. Well, last night we got in late around 10:30 and it was 91 degrees in our house! It's not normally such a big deal; however, I had to be up early this morning in order to go babysit at 8:00. Which means that I had to get up at 7:00 am. Yes, I am complaining about this because yes, I'm still currently in summer mode. So yours truly wanted to go to bed, but wasn't able to until 11:30/12:00 when it had finally cooled down to a chilly 85 degrees!

So, I'm exhausted and fall sleep only to be awakened at 2:30 AM IN THE MORNING by a screeching sound! What is that? OH YEAH, IT'S THE SMOKE ALARM IN MY BEDROOM! Was my bedroom on fire? No. Was the house on fire? No. The alarm just decided to go off and wake me from my wonderful sleep. So, I go get hubby he does something and it goes off. We get back in bed and go back to sleep. Well, guess what goes off again at 3:30 AM IN THE MORNING??! If you said our smoke alarm, ding, ding, ding!!! You're right! Stupid thing.

Hubby got up AGAIN and this time just shut the whole thing off. Stupid alarm. So, basically I didn't get ANY sleep last night and had to get up bright and early to babysit. You could say that I've been a little bit cranky today! :) Well, that's my fun story of the day. I'm off to get some real sleep tonight...that hopefully stays smoke alarm free! :)

"You Are For Me" Kari Jobe

I heard this song for the first time the other day and completely fell in love with it! Women everywhere need to listen to it. Hopefully it will speak to you like it did to me! I really needed to hear this tonight. No matter when or what, in every circumstance, I KNOW that He is for me! I am never forsaken. Listen and be blessed! :)

So faithful
So constant
So loving and so true
So powerful in all you do
You fill me
You see me
You know my every move
You love for me to sing to you

I know that you are for me
I know that you are for me
I know that you will never forsake me in my weakness
I know that you have come down
Even if to write upon my heart
To remind me who you are

So patient
So gracious
So merciful and true
So wonderful in all you do
You fill me
You see me
You know my every move
You love for me to sing to you

I know that you are for me
I know that you are for me
I know that you will never forsake me in my weakness
I know that you have come down
Even if to write upon my heart
To remind me that

I know that you are for me
I know that you are for me
I know that you will never forsake me in my weakness
I know that you have come down
Even if to write upon my heart
To remind me who you are

WHAT a week!!

Well, this is going to be a LONG post, so sit down and get comfortable! :)

First of all, I just wanted to say thank you all who commented on my last post! I appreciated all of your sweet words and suggestions and was so relieved to know that I'm not the only one in this position! I'm really trying harder to put myself out there, even if it's just speaking up more. I am excited because I have plans to go see a movie with one of the girls in my life group so I'm really excited! I'm also planning a girls day for the group sometime soon!

Now, let's move on to all of the excitement and D-R-A-M-A that happened in my life this past week! Before I begin, you need to know that Bryan was scheduled to go on a "man trip" to San Marcos with his brother and some friends from college and they were going to camp out and float the Guadalupe river Wed-Sat.

Last weekend, Bryan began complaining about his lower back hurting, but we didn't know what he'd done and it wasn't a really big deal. He stretched, took some hydrocodon and nothing really changed.

*MONDAY* Bryan wakes me up at 7:30 a.m telling me to go get a hydrocodon NOW! I go get him one, and discover that basically he's in so much pain that he can't move, can't get out of bed, anything. So, I have to PUSH AND PULL him out of bed so he can stand up. Let me also say that my husband has a VERY high pain tolerance and he was moaning/groaning like I'd never heard before and was in so much pain he was almost crying. By now, he said we have to go to the Dr. so I get online and look to see if there's an appointment open. *B/c we're teachers in the district, we get to make appointments online and go to a clinic that Rockwall provides that is free to all teachers.* Well, I got online and of course there were NO appointments open, so he said we're going to the ER! So I throw on a t-shirt and shorts, oh and did I mention that my husband couldn't even put his own clothes on so I had to dress him?!

We get in the car and I drive him to the ER and get him checked in. They take him to his room, do blood and urine tests on him to rule out possible kidney stones or an infection. Everything comes back normal, so no kidney stones. They say "maybe you pulled a muscle" and Bryan says, "No, it's not that. I've pulled a back muscle before and this isn't it." They just don't really know what it is and didn't really do much to find out. Bryan told them that he has had his appendix rupture and that was a 10 on the pain scale and his back pain at that moment was a 7. So, they end up giving him a shot of liquid motrin and a valium pill. Yes, you heard right, VALUIM! The nurse that gave him the pill even said, "Yeah, it won't really help with the main, but it will make you relax and go to sleep!" WHAT THE HECK?!!

So basically we check out of the ER with nothing learned, and Rx for Valium and hydrocodon. Great. So we get back online to check and see if there's any appointments at the free clinic and what do you know?! They had one! Of course it opens up AFTER we leave the ER! So, we go and get some lunch and then go home. Bryan goes to sleep at 12:00 and doesn't wake up until 4:15!! That stupid pill completely knocked him out and he said he hated how it made him feel and he's never taking one again!

We get to the clinic, see our favorite PA and she hears about our ER adventure, and is shocked that they didn't really do anything for Bryan except give him the stupid Valium. She was great and did some more tests and excersises to figure out what it might be, then decides that it's his sciatic nerve. Something is pinching it/irritating it/something to cause all of his pain. She ends up giving him a steriod shot, some pain shot, and a Rx for muscle relaxers that even the stupid ER didn't give! He did get some relief thank goodness. Oh and you can imagine how we felt after finding out that our wonderful ER visit is going to cost us around $1000 when we went to the clinic and actually got helped for FREE! You can imagine how upset we were about that! Please be praying that God will bring the finances for that! :) Overall, Monday was a horrible day.

*TUESDAY* I went to babysit early Tuesday morning for my favorite kids, and thank goodness Bryan was feeling MUCH better on Tuesday! His younger brother Colby ended up coming over to our house to get ready to leave on their man trip. Bryan had a large small  meltdown about how much the ER bill is going to cost us at dinner that night. Oh, did I mention that we were at Buffalo Wild Wings? Yes, I was that crazy woman yelling at her husband in the restaurant! :) I told him we can't do anything about it now, to trust God to provide, He won't ever give us anything we can't handle, everything was going to be ok, and we got over it! :)

*WEDNESDAY* Bryan and Colby head out on their man trip around 9:30 that morning and I went up to work in my classroom. I go to Target that afternoon and while I'm there, get a call from my MIL saying that my father in law, Bob HAD A HEART ATTACK AND WAS IN THE HOSPITAL!! I'm thinking, "You have got to be kidding me!" She then tells me that he's going into surgery and that Dad has asked to please not tell the boys b/c they would of course leave their trip and go immediately to see them. So, worried about Dad at the moment, I agreed. Mom kept me updated on Dad's status, everything went fine, they found that one of his femoral arteries was blocked and the others were too, but only 33% so they were going to correct those with medicine. That night he woke up and was doing really well. He actually sent me a text message that night, so I knew he was doing good.

Oh and don't forget that I'm HOME ALONE, already had my husband in the ER two days ago, and now I have this emergency happen, and I can't tell my husband. Anyone want to imagine how I was feeling! :) I ended up calling my mom and my best friends J & J and they made me feel better. Even though I did NOT agree with lying to my husband, I did my best to assess the situation and make the best decision I thought was right. I knew that the most important person right now was Bob. I didn't want to make him more upset and make things worse, and I knew that's what would happen if the boys left and went to him. I would stay updated and then tell Bryan if things changed for the worse. Also, I realized that Bryan and I had never discussed what to do in this type of situation, so I was just doing what I thought was best. I would recommend that if you and your husband/family have not discussed what to do in this type of situation, do so immediately!

*THURSDAY* I stayed updated on Dad's progress and he was doing great. Went to IKEA and to Teacher's Tools to stay productive and keep my mind off of things! Plus it was great to hang out with my bestie! :) I talked to Bryan every day and he was having a blast on his man trip.

*FRIDAY* Long story short, this was the day the boys found out about dad. Jason (brother in Germany) called the house and Granny (who suffers from dimensia) told Jason about Dad's heart attack. Jason doesn't really understand her, so he calls Willa and Bob, can't get ahold of them, and calls BRYAN! He called me, didn't know if Granny was talking crazy or true, can't get ahold of Mom and Dad, wants me to try, so I called Willa and she called Bryan and told them the truth. She calms him down, reassures him that Dad is doing great, is going home tomorrow, and to finish their trip. They agree, Bryan's not mad at me, the end.

*Chelsey wipes off forhead* Geez, that makes me tired just typing all of that! If you're actually still reading, props to you! Bryan and the boys came home safe and sound yesterday, and I'm so glad to have my hubby back! Dad is home and doing great, actually healthier than he was before the surgery. Please keep praying for his recovery! Ok, well I think that's enough info for tonight! Thanks for reading! :)
